About the Spoken Tutorial Project
The Spoken Tutorial Project is the initiative of the “Talk to a Teacher” project at IIT Bombay, National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD, Govt. of India, to spread IT Literacy all over India. It promotes the learning and usage of Free & Open Source Software (FOSS), through an Audio-Video teaching tool, viz. ‘Spoken Tutorial’.
About the Spoken Tutorial
A spoken tutorial is a video recording of a computer session. Through audio and visual means, a spoken tutorial guides and instructs students. Spoken tutorial are created for self learning and hence promotes active learning. This allows student to learn from spoken tutorials by reproducing every activity explained and demonstrated in the tutorial/recording. The aim of spoken tutorial is to improve students IT/Programming skills and thus improves their employment potential.
About Software Offered through Spoken Tutorial Project
It provides a variety of Spoken Tutorials on various Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) like Linux, Scilab, LaTeX, PHP & MySQL, Java, C/C++, Python, Puby, Perl, Scilab, Blender, LibreOffice etc. Spoken-Tutorials are available in various Indian regional languages also.
About SELF Workshop
In a SELF workshop, a typical student learns from spoken tutorial by reproducing every activity explained and demonstrated in the recording/tutorial. No domain expert needs to be present. SELF workshops are typically of two hours duration. The student learns only some spoken tutorials in the classroom, the rest to be learnt outside the classroom.
About the Role of NK Orchid CET, Solapur.
We are proud to say that we are authorized Super Resource Center of Spoken Tutorial project, IIT BombayIIT, NMEICT, MHRD, Govt. of India. IIT Bombay has promoted NK Orchid College of Engineering & Technology, Solapur as a Super Resource Center for Spoken Tutorial Project. Being Super Resource Center we contribute towards IT literacy and awareness by organizing SELF & Awareness Workshop for Polytechnic, ITI and degree colleges, in and around Solapur district.
